Required materials: If a Chinese citizen marries a foreigner in China’s Mainland, or a China’s Mainland resident marries a Hong Kong resident, a Macao resident, a Taiwan resident, or an overseas Chinese in China’s Mainland, both parties should jointly apply to the Marriage Registry of the Civil Affairs Bureau in the permanent registered location of China’s Mainland resident, and submit the following certificates and supporting materials:

1. For China’s Mainland resident: Original household register, ID card;(divorce certificate, death certificate)

For foreigner: (1) The valid personal passport or other valid international travel document; (2) a certificate of no spouse issued by a notary public office or a competent authority of the country in which the foreigner settles and certified by the Chinese embassy (consulate) in that country or that country’s embassy (consulate) in China, or a certificate of no spouse issued by that country’s embassy (consulate) in China;

Overseas Chinese: (1) The valid personal passport;(2) a certificate of no spouse and a certificate of no lineal relative by blood and collateral relatives by blood up to three generations with the other party issued by a notary public office or a competent authority in the country of residence and certified by the Chinese embassy (consulate) in that country, or a certificate of no spouse and a certificate of no lineal relative by blood and collateral relatives by blood up to three generations with the other party issued by the Chinese embassy (consulate) in that country;

Hong Kong resident, Macau resident or Taiwan resident: (1) The valid personal exit-entry permit for travelling and ID card; (2) a statement of having no spouse and no lineal relative by blood and collateral relatives by blood up to three generations with the other party notarized by the notary authority of place of residence;

2. Declaration of Application for Marriage Registration filled out by the applicant, and the signature for the “Declarant” column must be completed by the declarants in front of the marriage registrar who is the administrator of oath;

3. Three pieces of 2-inch half-length bareheaded group photos recently taken by both parties.

The marriage registry shall review the certificates and supporting materials produced by the parties to the marriage registration and inquire about the relevant circumstances. If the parties meet the marriage conditions, the registration shall be completed immediately and the marriage certificates shall be issued; if the parties are not eligible for marriage registration and the registration is rejected, the reasons shall be explained to the parties and the Notice of Rejecting Marriage Registration shall be issued.

Note: The statement or certificate of no spouse shall be valid within 6 months from the date of issuance.
