From March 11 to 16, the 2024 training course on comprehensive assessment of elderly capabilities hosted by the Department of Civil Affairs of Hainan Province was held in Qionghai City. Over 300 professionals from the elderly care service industry across the province participated in the training.

This training session is the first of its kind organized in Hainan province since the release of the National Standard on Assessing the Abilities of the Elderly. It aims to thoroughly implement the important directives and instructions on elderly care services by General Secretary Xi Jinping, promote and implement the National Standard, standardize the assessment of elderly disabilities, and provide more precise and personalized services for elderly healthcare.

The training covered core areas such as the overview of elderly capabilities assessment, interpretation of indicators for assessing elderly capabilities, guidance on evaluating elderly capabilities, professional understanding of elderly capabilities assessors, assessment and care for disabled elderly individuals, practical exercises in elderly capabilities assessment, among others. It provided a systematic and in-depth learning experience for all participants to help them fully understand and effectively master the skills of assessing elderly capabilities. Experienced experts were invited to lecture during the training, and Hainan Health Management College was invited to conduct the assessment examination for the Senior Elderly Ability Assessor certificate. Over 180 participants took part in the on-site certification exam, leading to the training of the first group of senior elderly capabilities assessors in our province.

The training program has sparked enthusiastic responses within the elderly care service industry across the province, with a significantly higher number of registrations than expected, resulting in a full house at the training venue. Participants have expressed that the training schedule is well-organized and the content is rich. They appreciated the opportunity to delve deeply into the related theoretical knowledge of the National Standard on Assessing the Abilities of the Elderly and to acquire practical skills by engaging in hands-on exercises that focus on crucial aspects, judgment methods, and precautionary measures during assessments. Upon returning to their positions, they intend to apply the knowledge gained in practice to enhance the provision of precise, caring, and high-quality services to the elderly.
